Accessibility Statement

This accessibility statement concerns Lentorata Oy’s online service and has been updated on8 March 2024. The online service is covered by the Act on the Provision of Digital Services, which requires that public online services must be accessible.

This statement explains what deficiencies there are in the accessibility of the website and how you can give us feedback on the accessibility of the service.

The accessibility of the service has been assessed by an external expert organisation Verkkovaraani.

The state of accessibility of the digital service

This online service meets the AA level accessibility requirements of Standard WCAG 2.1 in many respects. However, the website has the known accessibility deficiencies listed below, which we will correct in the course of 2024.

Content and activities that are not yet accessible

Detectable: Deficiencies in visual contrast and the contrast of colour combinations

Detectable: Deficiencies in the accessibility of images and text content

Alt texts are missing from the images on the website at least on the pages Project is progressing, What is Lentorata?, Contact information and Join in, as well as in the articles Airport line’s EIA and alignment plan and A step closer to Europe. Text on the pages Views about Suomi-rata and Join in is presented in image format.

Accessibility requirements that are not met: 1.1.1, 1.4.5

To be managed: Link accessibility deficiencies

All links except the main menu links and buttons lack hover style. The website has links that lack a text label (footer social media links and image links of the topical feed). The link in the crumb path has no distinguishing factor. There are a few links on the site that do not have a descriptive link text.

Accessibility requirements that are not met: 1.4.1, 2.4.4, 4.1.2

To be managed: The site is not fully accessible using the keyboard

The site is missing the “jump to content” feature. The main menu’s submenu items cannot be accessed using the keyboard. The Twitter feed’s “download more” button is not accessible using the keyboard. In the Safari browser, it is only possible to proceed to the first link using the keyboard (language selection EN) and to the Join in page form on the site.

Accessibility requirements that are not met: 2.1.1, 2.4.1

To be managed: Content is not fully accessible with a screen reader

VoiceOver does not begin to read page content in the Safari browser.

The newsletter subscription form has the following deficiencies: a) there is no notification of the successful submission of the form in the screen reader b) there is no notification of the failed submission of the form in the screen reader c) when incorrectly filled fields are entered using the keyboard, the screen reader informs about the error but does not provide a more detailed correction proposal.

We are constantly working to ensure accessibility

The accessibility of the online service creates equal opportunities for everyone to use the service.

We pay attention to accessibility in all site content and maintenance work. We have also designed functions on the pages that are not required by law but that make it easier for different user groups to use the service. For example, the “listen to the content” function will be introduced on the pages.

For an easy and accessible user experience, we have commissioned user testing in addition to the accessibility audit. In a study, we investigated how real users assess the usability of an almost complete site and the discoverability of information. Some of the site’s testers represented special groups.

The test indicated that on average it was quite easy to find the information searched from the pages, and especially content that had been worked on a lot were rated high. On the basis of the study, we will continue to focus on careful content production and correct the technical deficiencies that have been highlighted.
